Rules

This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older.

All mailed entries must be received at the mailing location by the shipping deadline - please allow for shipping time.

All entries will be picked up from drop-off locations the day of the drop-off deadline.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).

Entry payments will be made to "Acadiana Roots", which will be indicated on your payment account.

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, illedgible labels, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.

Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.

Judges will be asked to award a first, second, and third place for each medal category. We will leave the decision to our judges on how to award medals, and whether an entry should qualify for a medal. If the judges cannot come to a decision, the competition organizers will assist as necessary.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once.

The competition committee reserves the right to combine overall style categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in. We will attempt to have at least 10 entries per medal category.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging of the 1st place table winners.

Bottles will not be returned to entrants.

Scale-Up Opportunities in 2024:

The following breweries are confirmed as "Scale-Up Sponsors" for the Boot Brew Fest in 2024. These breweries have committed to host the winning homebrewer of their sponsored category and brew a version of that beer on site and sell it to the public on release. This is a great cross-promotional opportunity, and we hope both the homebrewers and breweries benefit from this partnership. Make sure to support these breweries and thank them for this wonderful sponsorship!

  • The Boot Brew Fest will arrange contact between the winning homebrewer and sponsoring brewery within 2 weeks of the competition ending.
  • All travel expenses for the scale-up brew day are the responsibility of the winning homebrewer.
  • The sponsoring brewery reserves all rights to modify the homebrewer's recipe in cases where ingredient availability, cost, or the brewing process are prohibitive for them. These changes should be in collaborition with the homebrewer where possible.
  • The brewery and homebrewer must agree to a brew date within one calendar year of the Boot Brew Fest awards ceremony.
  • If the winning homebrewer is not able to participate in the scale-up, the Boot Brew Fest will work with the brewery to determine a replacement homebrewer either from other winners in the sponsored table or from winners on another table being considered by the brewery.
  • The winning homebrewer will be provided at minimum one 24 count case of 12oz (or equivalent by volume) bottles or cans of the finished product. The Boot Brew Fest will assist with delivery of the product if necessary where the homebrewer is not local to the brewery.
